Quote of the day

"You cannot hold on to anything good. You must be continually giving - and getting. You cannot hold on to your seed. You must sow it - and reap anew. You cannot hold on to riches. You must use them and get other riches in return."

"I Have To Help Arisa!" (68)

February 22nd, 2012

Author's Note: Tsubasa is a wonderful,fun-loving character in Natsumi Ando's graphic novel Arisa. You will learn form this book that trying to find out more about your love ones, might not be the best idea.

“I don’t have time to mope around! I have to help Arisa!” (67-68) In Natsumi Ando’s graphic novel, Arisa, shows in his drawings the physical description of Tsubasa, her behavior, and her thoughts.

Tsubasa Uehara, a fourteen year old girl, is known as the Demon Princess of Higashi Junior High. All of this will change when her pretty and popular twin sister attempts suicide from her apartment window. Tsubasa's physical description totally changed after the accident. Instead of sassy blond hair, she had strait reddish-brown hair. This event of change reminded me of a T.V. show called ‘Once Upon a Time’. Just like every T.V. show, the actors have to pretend to be someone else.Once Upon A Time’ is about fairy tale characters that are trapped in our world. So the actors have to pretend to be two different people. There was a lot of change on the outside, but her high tempered behavior was still of the inside.

When Tsubasa was in her school, she was bugged by everything! Her sister wouldn’t freak out about a milk carton not being unfolded, washed, and then recycled! I know I wouldn’t. With Tsubasa’s high temper, Arisa’s classmates are noticing a changes in their class president. Throughout all of this confusion in the school, Tsubasa’s thoughts keep trailing back to why Arisa tried to kill herself.

As everyone knows, trying to commit suicide is a sin that shouldn’t be attempted. On average, almost 3,000 people commit suicide every day. Every 30 seconds, the loss of a person who killed themselves shatters the lives of family and friends, according to http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/statements/2007/s16/en/index.htmlDuring this book, this thoughts of suicide keep appearing, just like another book I know. Warriors is a series that has a lot of for-shadowing. For-shadowing is a very important thing to have in a book; that is why many book that you read have the same thoughts popping up in different places.

Overall, Tsubasa is a very fun character in the graphic novel ArisaNatsumi Ando made her behavior and thoughts help sketch her physical description in your mind.
